Making Your First Charms Blow Pop

Making Your First Charms Blow Pop and Lollipop

You've probably seen the Charm bracelets or the new "charmies blow" styles on television, or even at the malls. They are incredibly popular right now, and you can find tons of them online or in stores for a pretty penny. The charm that has become a favorite is the ever so versatile mini-flip flop. These little beauties are great for all ages, and it's easy to see why. I'll show you how to make charms blow pop/lollipop/candy.

First you'll need: mini silicone hot mitts

(these are typically sold in sets of 4), a clear plastic lollipop or candy stick, and some double-sided tape with an adhesive on one side and a sticky backing on the other. Also, you'll need some jewelry making clasps such as the kind made from metal links with barbs, and some double-sided sticky labels. You can find these at craft stores like Pier 1 Imprints or Cricut.

The next step is to cut out the shapes out of the candy or lollipop. Once you have done that you can lay down your jewelry making clasps and label them accordingly. This is a really important step, because next you'll have to carefully glue the pieces together with the double sided sticky tape and then secure them to each other with the hot mitts. Once you have this down, you'll want to start gluing the charms to the plastic using the double sided tape.

As you do that, you'll notice that the charms will fly off of the plastic as if they're flying off of skateboards. This is caused by the double sided tape binding them together, and then also because the charms get caught onto something. Since this is the first time you are making charms, and you've never done it before, it's recommended you go back through your supplies one more time to make sure you have everything you need to finish your project.

When your last piece is ready, it's time to string the charm on to your bracelet or necklace. It's best to be sure you know how to string it properly before you begin, so you don't wind up wasting any of your extra supplies. String the charm onto your bracelet as tightly as you possibly can. However, the tighter you tie it, the harder it will be for the charm to come off. The longer you tie it, the looser it will be. Once you're happy that your charm is securely in place, it's time to assemble your bracelet.

Make sure to always start with a clean surface when putting charms on or off. You want to keep your jewelry clean! This is just another way that you can prevent clanging. If your charms do happen to get clammed up, it's a lot easier to clean them then it would be if they were on a clean surface. Now that you have your new jewelry, you can enjoy your new collection!
